Transitioning to a new CAD system is always a challenge, but the payoffs can be huge. If you're going to change CAD, you're going to have to adjust your team as well. Sometimes it comes down to individual learning curves, but our team can help your team. We've transitioned teams using SolidWorks, Creo Pro/e, and Catia successfully. Let's look briefly at the challenge levels for each of these:

Going from SolidWorks to NX:
Usually this is easiest because the workflows are so similar. Dassault Systems (SolidWorks) licenses its main parasolid kernel from Siemens PLM, owner of the kernel. The main core of SolidWorks is the same kernel as with NX.

Going from Creo to NX:
The workflows are different, but our experience working with companies has shown us how to communicate & translate quirks & features from Creo into NX.

Going from Catia to NX:
Same goes for Catia, it's a different workflow, but again there's always little usability things we've encountered to smooth the way.

This course offering is an instructor-led upgrade and transition class, and includes hands-on training. Courses can be modified to exactly fit the needs of any team, company or department.

Our example course below is an upgrade session covering Teamcenter 8.3 to Teamcenter 10, with NX CAD upgrading from NX 8.5 to NX 10 (skipping over NX 9.0).

Each class participant will leave with the fundamental knowledge of what has changed in Teamcenter and should be comfortable returning to normal operations with regard to Teamcenter. NX CAD participants will leave this class with an understanding of enhanced and new features added in NX 9.0 and NX 10.0, new part creation, adding and removing components in an assembly, and drafting in the new environment.

This Siemens NX for Design training course introduces the basic and intermediate level uses of modeling, assemblies, drafting, sheet metal applications, and even introduces Synchronous modeling techniques.

This NX CAD Training Class is based on real-world use, and features tasks designers and engineers face in their day-to-day work. Instructor-led portions are interspersed with project-style application use. After attending this class you should be able to roll up your sleeves and start designing in NX.

Prerequisite: Prior understanding and experience with the fundamentals of solid modeling and drafting. You have used another 3D parametric CAD package before (Pro/E, I-deas, Catia, Solidworks, etc). This could be a good upgrade class if you are working in 2 or more releases behind the current release of NX.

If your organization can't afford the down time that is usually accustomed with a major release upgrade, let Applied CAx help make the transition an easy one. We can come onsite for dedicated training classes and then be available for over-the-shoulder mentoring to help users get over the little hurdles that tend to make new releases troublesome. We prefer to MBWA (mentor by walking around) to make sure the training sticks and your users are productive from Go Live. Email and phone support is average. Having somebody to field a quick question and get your users going again is progress.

This class introduces the concepts of Synchronous Modeling and the tools that allow direct editing of geometry, even on imported/feature-less models. You will learn which commands are functional in History and History Free modes. Sample projects and use cases will be worked in class and strategy to employ. Upon completion of this course you will be able to start working confidently with this powerful tool set.

Prerequisite: At least 1 year of consistent usage of NX modeling application.
