April 24, 2026

We’re excited to welcome Emily Dederick to the team as a Software Engineer! With more than seven years of experience with Mendix, she has a background in full-stack development and consultation. Some specialties include data analytics, REST integrations, and database management. Emily has engaged with projects across a variety of industries, including insurance, real estate, manufacturing, law enforcement, and finance.

Q: What made you want to join the Applied team?

A: Applied showed promising future engagement and a positive workplace culture. I also missed the stability of working for a larger, established company.

Q: What are your areas of expertise?

A: Mendix Full Stack Application Development, Data Analytics, and REST Integrations.

Q: What’s your background or education?

A: After realizing that computer code was not black magic while taking an intro to programming course, I switched majors away from Civil Engineering and instead finished my Bachelor’s in Computer Science from Colorado School of Mines. Then, I participated in a two-month training program for Mendix development at my first workplace. I’ve since expanded my knowledge of Mendix and tools that can be integrated into its applications through various client engagements, and I’ve earned several certifications related to that expertise.

Q: How did you get started in your field?

A: I was referred to a Mendix consultancy by a friend shortly after college and quickly fell in love with its efficiency and ability to process high volumes of data.

Q: Where are you based?

A: Grand Junction, Colorado

Q: What’s your favorite way to start the day?

A: With waffles drowned in maple syrup.

Q: What’s a favorite quote or motto you live by?

A: It’s nice to be important, but it’s important to be nice.

Q: What’s something new you’ve learned recently—work-related or not?

A: I’ve recently been learning how to use the modeling software used for 3D printing.

Q: What’s a professional achievement you’re proud of?

A: Achieving my Advanced Mendix Certification with a 97% score after only a year in the field. This was also back when the certification was more difficult to earn, as it used to be a full-day exam where you were given a copy of a project with a list of features to develop, and they judged on best practices, code commit frequency, and use of Mendix’s built-in tools. Now they’ve updated this exam to a 1-hour multiple-choice quiz.
