This month,we’reanswering questionsabout NX error messages and Teamcenter X automation.

Question #1

Q: My features failed, and the error message is generic. What’s a systemic approach to debugging complex feature failures in NX, especially when the issue isn’t immediately obvious?

A: The log file generated from File->Help->Log File is always the first place to begin.

If you get an error, open this file, scroll to the bottom, and begin looking for your error. This often points you to a failure and gives more detail than the on-screen error message. If you’re an Applied CAx customer, you have access to our NX Application Engineers on staff to help troubleshoot any issues you come across, but if you’re troubleshooting on your own, then failures specific to geometry features are almost always caused by changes to features or assembly components upstream.

The starting point is to begin working your way up the dependency tree in your features or components to find where the issue is first noticed and evaluate from there.

Question #2

Q: Is there a way inTeamcenter Xto automate notifications when files or approvals are waitingonsomeone?

A: Yes, there are a few ways to handle this through configuration:

Workflow Handler is the main one. When an item revision gets submitted to a workflow and moves through the different process steps, handlers can trigger notifications along the way. Any files attached to that item revision can come along for reference, so the right people see what they need to review.

You can also subscribe to an object directly. Once you’re subscribed, you’ll get an email any time that object changes, so you don’t have to keep checking back manually.

Additionally, Teamcenter’s Out of Office and surrogate features can send notifications too, which helps make sure approvals don’t just sit there if someone’s away.
