Get to know Corey
1. What inspired you to join the Applied team?
Applied offers me the opportunity to focus on and hone my skills in the Siemens platforms. Along with learning and growing my portfolio with best practices and advanced techniques within CAD, CAM, and PLM services, I will have the chance to interface with other Siemens users and assist in the challenges they face.
2. What are your areas of expertise?
CAD, CAM, mechanical design, design for manufacturing, aerospace and composite structure design and manufacturing, metallic design, fabrication, and machining.

4. What do you love most about what you do?
Every day I look forward to those “Ah ha moments”, the chance to see something from a different perspective as well as learn new ways to complete a task. I also really enjoy learning. Even in past positions where the systems were stable, I would strive to find better and more robust ways to achieve the final product.
5. Tell us about yourself – what’s your background and education?
Before transitioning into engineering, I worked in commercial and residential construction. Building everything from small one-bedroom cabins to multimillion-dollar homes to expansive business complexes. After construction I found myself working in energy production for a fabrication company that specialized in natural gas processing equipment along with water pumping systems. My experiences led me to seek a degree in mechanical engineering. I started at a small community college in northern New Mexico which led to attending Arizona State University Polytechnic. Where I received both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering. During my schooling, I got an internship with Orbital ATK in Chandler AZ. Shortly after I joined the Orbital team, we were acquired by Northrop Grumman. After the acquisition and my graduation, I stayed in Chandler for a time where I was then asked to join a team of design engineers who were tasked with an assignment in Utah. We were asked to help bring a project that had fallen behind schedule. After helping to successfully put the project back on schedule I spent a short time working for L3 Harris in Oklahoma. There I was exposed to the underwater world of submarines. While there I had the chance to get to know the structural design and support systems used in underwater vessels. I then had the privilege of finding my way back to Northrop in Utah to again help with tight schedule constraints. This time on the manufacturing side of the aforementioned project. I was a part of that team for almost 4 years before I made my way to Applied.
6. How did you get started in your field? What excited you about it?
From a young age, I’ve been fascinated with mechanical systems and how they interact. So naturally I gravitated to mechanical things. I love to tinker with things from Legos with the kids to building V8 engines and offroad vehicles. To me, there is a purity in mechanical systems that’s unmatched. It’s very satisfying to take a vast array of pieces and compile them in a way they can all work together to make a whole that’s greater than the sum.
7. Where are you located?
I’m currently located in a suburb about 40 minutes north of Salt Lake City Utah called Clinton.
8. Where would we find you when you’re not at work — what kinds of things do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
If you catch me outside of work, you may find me doing one of my many outdoor hobbies. It could be anything from playing baseball with my son to riding OneWheels with my children or even out on the trails on our dirt bikes trying to keep them all on 2 wheels. I also enjoy driving anything fast. I recently built a V8 to drop into my 1980s Toyota Land Cruiser, just because I needed it to be faster. We also enjoy camping, watching/playing sports, hanging out with friends and family, and just overall being out and about kicking up dust.
Tell us 3 fun facts about you.
- I’ve had the chance to skydive over the ocean in Hawaii.
- I had the chance to be Life Flighted off a mountain after I found out trees are stronger than dirt bikes, my face, and my neck.
- As a young child I once jumped off our 2-story roof with a grocery sack over my shoulders thinking that would be enough to slow me down before hitting the ground. Needless to say, I learned that lesson the hard way.
