Meet the Team: Scott Painter

Scott Painter is a highly knowledgeable and experienced design and manufacturing application engineer with a strong CAD and PLM systems background. Scott has been working with 3D CAD systems for 28 years and NX specifically for the past 17 years. For the first half of his career, he worked as a design engineer in multiple industries, including automotive, aerospace, consumer appliances and electronics, and sporting goods. He has spent the second half of his career working as an NX Application engineer supporting aerospace companies, providing technical support, process development, and NX Application configuration and setup to help NX customers maximize the value of their NX applications.

Q. What inspired you to join the Applied team? 

A. The team chemistry.

 

Q. What are your areas of expertise? 

A. NX and Teamcenter, Product Design & Process Improvement

 

Q. What do you do for Applied? 

A. I am an NX Application Engineer. I help resolve day-to-day issues for our customers.

 

Q. What do you love most about what you do? 

A. Interacting with the customer and providing excellent customer service.

 

Q. Tell us about yourself – what’s your background and education? 

A. I have a B.S. in Physics. I started my career in 1996 as a product designer. I have worked in the aerospace, automotive, consumer electronics, & sporting goods industries with companies like ATK, SpaceX, Ford Motor Company, Motorola & Callaway Golf. For the last 10 years or so I have focused on the engineering software support side of things.

 

Q. How did you get started in your field? What excited you about it? 

A. When I got out of the Army and went back to college, I started down the Mechanical Engineering path. My first summer back, I got an internship at a local Tier-One automotive supplier who was transitioning from 2D to 3D CAD. I taught myself the 3D software during my internship and was offered a full-time position at the end of the summer. I took to the 3D modeling and the capabilities of the software. It was an exciting time to be jumping into 3D as it was just starting to be utilized by more and more companies.

 

Q. Where are you located? 

A. Hockeytown USA – Warroad, MN. Six miles south of the Canadian border in Northern Minnesota. The closest Walmart is 1.5 hours away.

 

Q. Where would we find you when you’re not at work? 

A. At a hockey rink or a baseball field or driving to one of those.

 

Q. What kinds of things do you enjoy doing in your spare time? 

A. Watching my son play sports, working in the garden, dreaming up remodeling plans for my house.

 

Tell us 3 fun facts about you.

 

  • I keep in shape by playing Fortnite while working out on an elliptical trainer.
  • The temperature where I live is below zero for a solid 3-4 months every year.
  • I used to own a pizza shop back in the day that had a 4.5 rating on Yelp. I have a full-blown 4-deck pizza oven in my garage and make pizza for friends, family, and neighbors.
