Mendix 2026 recap: what’s next for low-code in Intelligence Center X

October 14, 2026

Manufacturers run their operations across many systems: PLM, ERP, MES, and quality management. The information engineers need to make decisions is often spread across silos, and bringing it together usually requires manual work or custom development.

That gap is where Mendix does its best work. In 2026, Mendix updated the platform every month from March through September. The updates focused on making Mendix a platform where people and AI agents work on processes together, with built-in governance. This blog explores the 2026 changes, including AI updates and what it means for Mendix to be added to Intelligence Center X.

The year in Mendix

Agents moved into the core platform

Mendix 11.10 added chat agents to the Agent Editor in Studio Pro, alongside the task agents already available. By the 11.12 release in June, Agents Kit 2.0 made the Agent Editor the preferred way to build agents. Developers can define agents at design time directly in Studio Pro, manage the full lifecycle as part of the app model, and leverage built-in platform capabilities like model documents, version control, and deployment pipelines.

Additionally, agents can:

  • Connect to providers such as Amazon Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, Mistral, and Google Gemini.

In September, Mendix 11.15 let developers create, edit, and refine agents entirely through conversation with Maia, including the knowledge bases and MCP services those agents depend on.

Evolving Maia

Maia, the Mendix AI assistant, grew from helping developers to doing a larger share of the work. In 11.12, Maia Plan started pushing generated epics and user stories straight into Jira, and Maia Make gained a planning mode that asks clarifying questions before it generates. Teams could also connect their own OpenAI-compatible language model, which gives them control over cost and data residency. By 11.15, Maia can now start and restart an app to test its own changes and configure security and settings.

An LTS release built for AI

Mendix 11.12, released June 2026, is the first long-term support release since Mendix 10.24. It brings the year’s agentic features onto a stable foundation, along with faster performance in Studio Pro. According to Mendix, project load times dropped 25 to 40%, and error checking runs up to six times faster on large projects.

Additionally, governance was a priority. Platform administrators can now define policies once and track violations across every app. Software Composition now surfaces known Mendix and Siemens vulnerabilities by severity. In 11.15, Strict Mode became the default for new apps, tightening how client-side code can access data.

What’s next for Mendix in Intelligence Center X

In June 2026, Mendix announced that its low-code platform is now part of Intelligence Center X, Siemens’ agentic enterprise system for industrial AI. Intelligence Center X connects a company’s existing systems through a unified knowledge graph, without creating another data silo. People and AI agents work from that shared context, and the system orchestrates workflows between them. Siemens says it is grounded in ontologies built by the same teams behind Opcenter and Teamcenter.

Where Mendix fits

Siemens organizes Intelligence Center X around four connected parts. Graph Studio provides context by building a live enterprise knowledge graph. AI Studio provides intelligence through custom ML models grounded in operational data. Mendix provides action, where teams build agents and intelligence applications and orchestrate them into real work. A governance layer provides trust, tracing every agent action and workflow decision back to its source data and the person who approved it.

In practice, Mendix takes the intelligence Graph Studio and AI Studio produce and embeds it into applications and human-in-the-loop workflows. Mendix describes the result as people and AI agents operating as a single governed workforce, where every decision has a trail and every action has an owner.

Mendix inside Teamcenter Active Workspace

Siemens states that the Intelligence Center X ontologies are built by the same teams behind Teamcenter. Mendix 11.12 introduced Mendix inside Teamcenter Active Workspace as a public beta with Teamcenter 2512. A Mendix app runs as an integrated part of Active Workspace, picks up context such as the selected item revision or BOM position, and follows the user as they navigate without a second login.

Picture an engineer reviewing a part revision in Active Workspace. An embedded Mendix app brings the context they need onto one screen, showing whether the part has open non-conformances in the quality system and how much stock is currently available in SAP. Next to that data, an AI-generated recommendation on whether to proceed, request a deviation, or escalate. From there, users can act on the recommendation right away. They can submit a deviation request or trigger a sourcing workflow, and they can notify a supplier when needed. Mendix powers every step, so users never have to leave Teamcenter.

More governance and faster updates

Mendix Policies currently report violations, and Mendix says enforcement and more policy types will follow. Agents Kit now ships monthly updates. Mendix is also speeding up its long-term support cycle so new capabilities reach stable releases sooner.

Where to start

A practical first project is a process that currently requires manual work across systems, such as a change request that needs data from Teamcenter and SAP or a quality investigation tracked in spreadsheets.
