Q: How does NX handle assemblies differently from SolidWorks?
A: NX is optimized for large, structured assemblies where many users collaborate. It handles data efficiently using lightweight JT representations, meaning you can open massive assemblies without loading every part fully.
NX also provides top-down design tools, allowing parts to be created in the context of an assembly and updated through WAVE links. This makes it easier to manage design intent across complex systems, such as aerospace, automotive, or machinery.
In a professional environment, this scalability and performance are what make NX the preferred platform for companies managing hundreds or thousands of components.

Q: How can I learn STAR-CCM+ without a license? Does Siemens offer a student license?
A: Learning STAR-CCM+ without a license is a difficult task, as hands-on experience using it is the best way to learn the tool. However, there are many videos online that walk through the process from geometry creation to post-processing results and are valuable to learn about the general workflow, even if you don’t get to learn about the in-depth tools that STAR-CCM+ has.
Siemens does not offer a student license to individuals; however, they do offer discounted academic licenses to universities and design teams (like FSAE). Depending on the need, you could join a team with license access or reach out to a research lab to assist with projects while simultaneously getting your feet wet with STAR-CCM+.
