How Siemens is implementing AI
Despite the headlines and hype, Del Costy sees AI not as a threat but as an opportunity. At Siemens, AI is becoming a key enabler of innovation to help engineers move faster from idea to execution.
“I’m all about human ingenuity,” Del said. “If [AI] can help me accelerate…come up with iterations, validate those iterations—think of the opportunity I have to expand.”
That blend of AI and engineering is powering Siemens’ next-gen tools. With structured data from Teamcenter and visualization through digital twins, the design-to-production cycle is shrinking.
“Everything you described…imagine doing that all in a fully immersive environment. No barrier to language. I can tap into talent around the globe…actually design, iterate, and improve,” Del said.
The result? Products are being developed more quickly, affordably, and with greater sustainability.
What advice would you give to young engineers?
Del brings a broad perspective from his career that spans industries. His advice to the next generation reflects that depth of insight.
“Be curious and be engaged…even if you’re in a room and it’s not specific to your function…stay curious because you’re going to learn something,” Del said.
He also highlights something that is easy to overlook in the digital age: character.
“It’s so important that as people, we are respectful and good to one another. The golden rule applies: treat people like you want to be treated,” Del said.
Since the future of innovation rests in their hands, today’s emerging engineers must be equipped not only with cutting-edge tools but with the drive, empathy, and openness to keep learning and, eventually, leading.
