Meet the team: Get to know Jaymes Dionne
We’re excited to welcome C. Jaymes Dionne to the team as an Application Engineer! With over six years of experience with multi-physics simulation techniques, Jaymes has a background in modeling simulation. Some specialties include CFD and molecular dynamics.
Q: What made you want to join the Applied team?
A: I’m interested in using my computational skills in a more forward-facing role where I get to interact with clients and other users of the tools.
Q: What are your areas of expertise?
A: I have experience in STAR-CCM+ tools for CFD, C+ based simulation tools for molecular dynamics, and MATLAB/Python for data analysis. I’ve worked on projects ranging from nuclear reactor core design, battery modeling and development, bio-inspired engineering designs, and semiconductor physics.
Q: What’s your background or education?
A: I have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island, and an MS and BS in Nuclear Engineering from Oregon State University.
Q: How did you get started in your field?
A: I’ve always liked to build things and take them apart from a young age, so I knew that engineering would be right up my alley. I was very interested in novel design concepts, so I became attached to the idea of next-generation nuclear reactors, which allowed me to develop my computational and CFD skillset.
Q: Where are you based?
A: Portland, OR.
Q: What’s your favorite way to start the day?
A: A quiet morning with a nice cup of coffee and a cat on my lap.
Q: What’s a favorite quote or motto you live by?
A: Failure is the best teacher.
Q: What’s something new you’ve learned recently—work-related or not?
A: The Portland Metro Area is over 5 times the size of Rhode Island! (In RI, it can take less than an hour to travel the length of the state…)
Q: What’s a professional achievement you’re proud of?
A: Definitely receiving my PhD. A lot of work is involved during the process, including simulation, analysis, paper writing, mentorship, project leadership, etc. It was a tough journey but incredibly rewarding.
