Teamcenter case study – Space exploration company – Global

September 16, 2025

Customer background and project summary

Our client, a major aerospace manufacturer with a large user base and a complex engineering environment partnered with Applied CAx to enhance their Teamcenter deployment. The project required rapid delivery across a wide range of modules and system integrations to meet the demands of their fast-paced operations. Due to the high diversity of engineering processes across teams, Applied CAx implemented a flexible, modular workflow design, enabling scalable support for current needs and future growth.

Summary

Challenge:

  • Large user base with complex engineering environment
  • Failed PLM deployment needing replacement
  • CAD data quality issues

Solution:

  • Upgraded Teamcenter
  • Highly modular change management system
  • Large-scale data translation and migration
  • Expert services from Applied CAx

Impact:

  • Recovered a failed PLM deployment and replaced it with a future-ready system.
  •  Significantly improved performance, usability, and configurability of Teamcenter.
  •  Delivered advanced EBOM enablement, validated by Siemens as a technical leader.
  •  Resolved long-standing CAD data quality issues across SolidWorks and NX  workflows.
  • Positioned the company for scalable, clean digital thread development.

Project objectives

Applied CAx replaced the client’s Rich Application Client (RAC) with a tailored Active Workspace interface to improve usability and streamline the user experience. Advanced change management workflows were deployed across multiple change classes to support complex product development needs. The project also enabled electro-mechanical integration, simulation data management, and alignment of DBOM, EBOM, and MBOM structures within Teamcenter. To ensure end-to-end enterprise connectivity, the solution was integrated with ERP and analytics platforms.

Highlights:

  • Replace RAC with a tailored Active Workspace UI for better user experience.
  •  Deploy advanced change management workflows across multiple change classes (e.g., Class 1, Class 2, 2A, 2B, etc.).
  •  Support electro-mechanical integration and simulation data management.
  •  Deliver D-BOM, E-BOM, and M-BOM alignment within Teamcenter.
  •  Integrate with ERP and analytics platforms for end-to-end enterprise connectivity.

Project activity highlights

Throughout the rollout, Applied CAx addressed Organizational Change Management (OCM) to ensure user adoption and smooth transitions. A highly modular change management system was implemented, supporting distinct workflows based on classifications and pedigree.  The Active Workspace interface was tailored so users only accessed workflows relevant to their roles, improving clarity and efficiency. Large-scale data translation and migration efforts were completed under tight timelines, while complex and dynamic project pivots were managed with minimal disruption to delivery.

Teamcenter Simulation was developed to manage simulation data and integrated Siemens Capital with NX- managed to enable electro-mechanical co-design.

Full configuration of DBOM, EBOM, and MBOM support in Teamcenter, with custom workflows for BOM transformation and lifecycle management was performed. A direct SAP integration enabled seamless ERP handoff, while a specialized BI extraction tool was built to feed the enterprise data lake, running multiple times daily complementing DICE (Applied CAx’s proprietary Teamcenter tool – Data Integration Core Essentials) with broader scheduled data pulls.

Highlights

  • Addressed OCM (Organizational Change Management) throughout rollout.
  • Implemented a highly modular change management system supporting different workflows per classification and
  • Tailored the Active Workspace experience so users only see the workflows relevant to them.
  • Delivered large-scale data translation and migration under tight timelines.
  • Managed complex and dynamic project pivots with minimal disruption to delivery
  • Deployed Teamcenter Simulation (TC SIM) to manage and control simulation data.
  • Delivered full D-BOM, E-BOM, and M-BOM configuration.
  • Customized Teamcenter to support BOM transformation and lifecycle workflows.
  • Created direct integration from Teamcenter to SAP for ERP handoff of parts and M-BOMs.

Impact

Applied CAx recovered a failed PLM deployment and replaced it with a future-ready Teamcenter system that significantly improved performance, usability, and configurability. The team delivered advanced EBOM capabilities, earning recognition from Siemens as a technical leader. Long-standing CAD data quality issues were resolved across both SolidWorks and NX workflows, laying the groundwork for a clean, scalable digital thread and positioning the company for long-term success in product development.

Highlights

  • Successfully migrated Teamcenter to a secure GovCloud environment with minimal disruption.
  •  Established a reliable and scalable PLM backbone for a highly regulated aerospace engineering organization.
  •  Positioned company for future expansion of program-level capabilities, analytics, and integrated design workflows.
  •  Provided consistent, expert-level support under a managed services model.
