THE POWER OF NX FOR DESIGN

Assemblies in NX

NX is the next generation design platform that removes barriers to innovation, helping you define shapes the way nature does. Seamlessly combining multiple disciplines, NX enables more iterations by both experts and non-experts, and utilizes the latest manufacturing methods to ensure you recognize the value digitalization and deliver the best designs to market faster.

NX assembly design supports top-down and bottom-up assembly modeling. It provides for rapid navigation of the assembly hierarchy and allows direct access to the design model of any component or subassembly. It supports the “design in context” approach where changes can be made to any component of the design model while working in the context of the assembly.

Modeling in NX

NX delivers full feature-based parametric solid modeling and advanced features including blends, thin-wall, draft, mirrored features, open profile features and patterns.

The core modeling capability in NX combines wireframe, surface, solid, parametric and direct modeling in a single environment that enables designers to choose the most appropriate tool for the task at hand. In addition, direct modeling with synchronous technology offers a fast and intuitive approach to creating and editing designs using simple push-and-pull methods, and enables you to work directly with CAD geometry created on with other systems. For greater versatility and design flexibility, you can use synchronous modeling interchangeably with all of the other modeling tools. A configurable, role-based user interface displays the commands you need as you need them, and grows as your experience level grows.

Drafting in NX

NX includes high-end tools to automate and streamline engineering drawing production.

Drawings are associative to models, so model changes automatically update and are reflected in related drawings. Drafting capabilities include dimensioning, symbols, tabular notes, sheet layout and placement of standard orthographic and auxiliary views, automatic view creation from the 3D model, hidden line processing and automatic parts list generation.

Topology Optimization in NX

Topology optimization is a mathematical method that optimizes material layout within a given design space, for a given set of loads, boundary conditions and constraints with the goal of maximizing the performance of the system. Due to the free forms that naturally occur, the result often needs to be adjusted before manufacturing. In this demo we show you how to work with topology optimization in NX.

Additive Manufacturing in NX

Siemens NX provides all of the necessary capabilities, from design to print to post-print validation, in a single integrated system. Siemens NX is industrializing additive manufacturing so you can not only prototype, but also manufacture ground-breaking products with this exciting new technology. This allows you to reimagine your products, reinvent your manufacturing and even rethink your business models with additive manufacturing technology.

Latticing in NX

Lattices are an engineering trend but there are some core things points to understand. Lattice design is a complex game. NX’s tools allow you to select a portion of a part’s form (whether a void or a body of geometry) and fill that space with a lattice.

Convergent modeling allows lattice structures and feature based solids to work as one. Lattice structures help with designing lightweight components while maintaining structural integrity and strength, and are specifically designed for processes like additive manufacturing.

Convergent Modeling in NX

NX gives you unparalleled power when it comes to working with models created using topology optimization. By combining facet, surface and solid modeling in a single integrated environment, NX eliminates the need for reverse engineering. You can simply model with the topology optimization results directly. Convergent Modeling, compared with traditional modeling techniques, is 10 times faster, and NX's convergent modeling combines traditional feature modeling with facet modeling in a single unified system.

Most models originate from CAD systems, which typically use continuous surface and edge definitions. The trouble has always been that faceted models consist of groups of polygons (often triangles), and thus, facets have customarily had to be converted into surfaces and solids to support modeling operations.

Reverse Engineering in NX

With a highly flexible approach to reverse engineering, NX helps you reduce the time required to develop CAD models from physical objects. Whether you're creating Class A surfaces from clay models, creating implants or prosthetics from anatomical scans, or updating designs from existing products, NX reverse engineering software streamlines the creation of high-quality CAD geometry from scanned data.

With rapid surfacing tools in NX, you can automatically fit curves, splines and surfaces to the faceted data, creating precise CAD geometry for subsequent design engineering. NX also includes tools for comparing the scanned data to the CAD geometry in order to maintain tolerances. The resulting models help accelerate downstream design, simulation and manufacturing processes.

Sheet Metal in NX

Provides a solids-based application that is focused on design for manufacturing of sheet metal parts. Users can create sheet metal component models using feature-based design tools for tabs, flanges and other typical features. They can define forming tables and bend sequence tables, and reform the solid model taking into account material deformation properties. The sheet metal tools generate accurate flat pattern data for downstream applications from solids, sheets and wireframe geometry.

PMI in NX

The paperless workspace has been hype for decades, but recent efforts are pushing it to the forefront. How can you support your team and be successful in your initiatives? It's time to get your company and supply chain to buy into Advanced Manufacturing, Product Manufacturing Information (PMI), and Model Based Definition (MBD). Since PMI complies with industry standards for 3D product definition, product teams now have the ability to use 3D models as a sanctioned method for fully documenting product and manufacturing information. By associating PMI with a "living" part, information is re-used throughout the product lifecycle.

Mechanical-Electrical Routing in NX

NX digital product development solutions include an integrated suite of tools that facilitate the entire design process for routed systems, including wire harnesses, cables, piping, tubing, conduit and raceways. These process-specific tools reduce detailed design time, improve product quality and transfer product information seamlessly between the logical design, physical design, analysis, manufacturing and service sectors.

The trouble has always been that faceted models consist of groups of polygons (often triangles), and thus, facets have customarily had to be converted into surfaces and solids to support modeling operations.

With its new convergent modeling framework, NX aims to reduce the need for this reworking by bringing the scanned data in as facets that can be worked directly in NX. There's no need to map surfaces, create solids, or do any other manual shape creation. The approach enables new additive modeling workflows such as “scan to print” and “optimize to print,” as well as extending traditional modeling workflows, all without the need for time consuming reverse engineering.
