Solving Large assembly Performance Issues with Smart Discovery in Teamcenter & NX

Jamie Griffis headshot Anna Rubenacker headshotWhen: Tuesday, June 13th at 1:45 PDT – 2:30pm PDT
Location: Breakers E
Who:
Jamie Griffis, PLM Director & Partner — Applied CAx
Anna Rubenacker, PLM Lead — Commonwealth Fusion Systems

About: Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) has partnered with Applied CAx to configure Smart Discovery within Teamcenter, which can be utilized in both Active Workspace and NX. The engineering team at CFS was suffering performance issues while opening and saving large assemblies in NX & Teamcenter. To resolve these performance issues and leverage the advancements offered by Smart Discovery and other features, CFS and Applied upgraded to Teamcenter 14.1.0.3, Active Workspace 6.1.3, and NX2206 in January 2023. NX CAD Feature Automation

Michael GrantWhen: Wednesday, June 14th at 1:45pm PDT – 2:30pm PDT
Location: Breakers A
Who: Michael Grant — NX Applications Engineer

General purpose: How to automate NX CAD for NX CAM Manufacturing without custom scripts.

How to automate: Utilizing modeling structure and selection intent that creates robust features which will quickly update downstream features without breaking the intent. In turn capturing a process for reusability.

Benefit: Drastically speeds up process of setting up new MFG assembly with all the curves, and planes, needed for boundaries and controlling maximum depth of cut to prevent collision with fixture systems. Reduces time on non-value-added steps. User learns a method that can be used to automate all tasks.

Through my experience with process design, modeling, and automation, I have found a means of designing with a modular process that empowers the NX user to save and reuse design processes. The process is refined over time through the reuse and tuning / updates which are saved back to the template. I will show the use of base and extract features with the selection intent set to “feature” which allow deletion of entire sketches and recreation without breaking downstream features. Customers are importing parts from multi-cad systems where the parts are located randomly in the absolute coordinate system. This normally makes locating the stock to part and part to vise but I will show how to get this process down to 3 face selections and automating the locating process. Leveraging Siemens Products for a Better Tomorrow

Jesse BinfordWhenWednesday, June 15th at 8:30am PDT – 9:15am PDT
Location: Breakers GH
Who:
Jesse Binford, Teamcenter Architect — Applied CAx
Barron Knigge, Senior Electrical Engineer — First Mode

AboutFirst Mode is a global carbon reduction company tackling heavy industrial equipment in harsh environments with offices spanning North America, Europe, and Australia. First Mode partnered with Applied CAx in early 2022 with the desire to leverage Siemens products throughout the organization and take advantage of the Xcelerator platform.

Considering First Mode’s initiatives and tight deadlines, a multi-phased approach was selected for their system implementation. Phase 1 was a 12-week project that covered the transition from Solid Works to NX in Teamcenter for all design personnel, and training in the US and Australia. Future phases will expand the footprint of the Teamcenter implementation into ELD, TCSIM, T4EA, Requirements, and Change Management. (click here to add it to your conference agenda)
