Nuclear company: A journey to a stabilized Teamcenter and NX environment

Discover how this nuclear company partnered with Applied CAx to stabilize its Teamcenter and NX environment.

Overview

Our customer is a U.S.-based nuclear company that came to Applied CAx after two failed Teamcenter implementations prior to our partnership. The company needed help replacing its failed Teamcenter instance with a clean, scalable deployment, fixing misaligned schema, stabilizing NX model performance, and migrating and aligning SolidWorks and NX environments.

Applied CAx built a new Teamcenter instance from the ground up, translated schema to align data types, removed Rapid Start limitations, performed full site migration to cleanly separate legacy data from new system architecture, and corrected COTS data behavior by removing constraints from prior template lock-ins.

01
The challenge

Non-viable Teamcenter, BOM gaps, and NX assembly structure issues.

02
The solution

Updated Teamcenter, stabilized NX, and aligned CAD systems with Applied CAx.

03
The impact

Recovered PLM, resolved CAD issues, and enabled scalable digital thread.

Project objectives

After two failed attempts to implement Teamcenter before our partnership, our U.S.-based nuclear energy customer came to us needing a completely new and modernized system that could position it for rapid growth.

The company needed help fixing schema that was misaligned, including BOM and configuration needs. In addition to Teamcenter, this company wanted to improve NX performance and align NX and SolidWorks environments. By implementing these changes, this company set itself up for enhanced efficiency, collaboration, and scalability.

Project activity highlights

Rebuilding Teamcenter architecture and optimizing NX

First, we worked with our client to understand its goals and growth needs. We started by rebuilding the company’s Teamcenter instance from the ground up and performed schema translation to align data types, remove Rapid Start limitations, and support advanced capabilities. We eliminated all dependencies on Siemens’ Rapid Start template and enabled full schema control to unlock previously blocked Teamcenter functionality. A full site migration to cleanly separate legacy data from the new system architecture was also carried out. To help better suit our client’s goals, we also helped with NX performance and large assembly optimization by working with Siemens to implement best practices like correcting WAVE links and identifying circular references. This reduced our client’s model load time significantly. For the company’s EBOM and MBOM implementation, we held an on-site workshop to align the latest techniques and were able to deliver an operational BOM in under a month. To help company-wide alignment, we also oversaw a CAD translation project for SolidWorks to NX migration. All data was migrated into the new Teamcenter environment.

Results

Scalable growth with optimized data and architecture

Our client’s workflows are streamlined under its new Teamcenter environment, allowing for faster iteration and more rapid growth.

The company is now positioned to expand without worrying that its software will hold it back, and it saves time because of our CAD fixes and data quality improvements. This new system allows it to uphold best practices, ensuring maximum efficiency and encouraging more innovation.
