Simcenter Femap: An Agnostic Finite Element Platform Compatible with a Wide Variety of CAD Packages and FEA Solvers

Presented by Adrian Jensen, PE, Senior Application Engineer.
This presentation was initially held on: January 12th, 2022

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is the simulation of a physical phenomenon using a numerical mathematic technique referred to as the Finite Element Method, or FEM. Engineers can use these simulations to reduce the number of physical prototypes and run virtual simulations on a comprehensive digital twin to optimize their designs.

Fill out the form and one of our experts will be in touch shortly.

Bringing FEA in-house is a critical part of building a more complete digital twin for your products. However, it can be a daunting task when suppliers and customers are working with a constantly changing mix of CAD platforms and analysis requirements. Simcenter Femap can help you share data and collaborate in the design and analysis of engineered products, from consumer goods to aerospace components.

Femap is part of the Simcenter branch of the Siemens Xcelerator Portfolio of engineering software. In this presentation, Adrian highlights its agnostic nature and how it plays well with a wide variety of geometry and analytic data types, as well as some sample workflows importing geometry, exporting analysis decks, and post processing simulation results.

Adrian Jensen, MBA, PE — Senior Application Engineer

Meet Adrian Jensen, MBA, PE, a Senior Application Engineer for Applied CAx. With 12+ years of experience, Adrian specializes in all things Simcenter Femap: geometry modeling, meshing, analysis, post-processing, and programming with the Femap API.

Adrian studied mechanical engineering at Oregon State University and puts his background to use as a structural engineer. His curriculum vitae includes stress, vibration, flow, and heat transfer analysis for a variety of applications such as mining equipment, submersibles, electronics, gearboxes/transmissions, wind turbines, large facility HVAC, offshore structures, and ASME pressure vessels.

With the experience gained and lessons learned in these real-world applications, Adrian provides support for Simcenter Femap and Simcenter Nastran clients. Working in collaboration with George Laird, Adrian developed and presents training workshops, online seminars, video tutorials, and productivity enhancing automation programs for Femap.
