SIEMENS NX FOR DESIGN

Affected Software: NX 12.0.0
Scope: Windows 64-Bit

We are pleased to inform you that NX 12.0.1 is now available for download from the Siemens PLM download server. NX12.0.1 is an accumulation of fixes and small enhancements built for installation on top of Windows 64-bit and Linux 64-bit for NX 12.0.0.

In this tutorial we look at NX Open, show you the value, and show what you can do with it. We also show examples of automation, and how to get started with NX Open methods such as journaling/capturing processes.

What can you do with the NX Open tool kit? These are the three basic concepts of what you can do with NX Open:

  • Automate complicated and repetitive tasks within the NX environment
  • Customize the NX environment to your specific industry, product or process needs
  • Integrate with third party applications and platforms

Going further, NX Open is a set of libraries and classes that allow a user to integrate with an ERP to work with NX. Users can also achieve a great level of customization. Some examples of what you can automate include creating and editing geometry; transforming, rotating, plaining solid bodies; creating points, center lines; updating expressions in parametric parts; and pulling data from part files to analyze for design validation or verification processes. We also discuss some of the NX customization & automation services that we provide.

When you’re a mechanical engineer, and you have access to great CAD & a cutting-edge 3D printer, how do you fix the busted blinker on your motorcycle?

Using new Topology Optimization features in NX of course! Includes a walkthrough tutorial of using Topology Optimization in NX CAD.

After some helpful pre-announcements and much speculation, Siemens has laid out their next vision for NX. Starting in January 2019, NX will use a Continuous Release methodology.

This should see Siemens phase out a common versioning methodology, whose latest version is 12.0.1. As catchy as "NX-Not-13" sounds, the NX Continuous Release method should be a relief for customers accustomed to slightly laborious upgrades from version to version. These often required skillful coordination between licenses, servers and computers, not to mention files and add-ons.

Do you like still slides with detailed audio? Then this is the video for you!

In this overview we look at Convergent Modeling, 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing in NX engineering software.

What’s in this video?

1. Background on Convergent Modeling in NX
2. 3D Printing Formats: STL vs. 3MF
3. Overview of the Additive Manufacturing process in NX

Using the new windows layout tools will enable designers to quickly and easily see updates and changes that are needed by having the 3D model open right next to the 2D drafting.

We recently held a great event for the Pacific NW community showcasing what NX can do.

In this presentation we covered topics including:

  • Variable Offset Face
  • Combine
  • Flattening & Forming – Controlling Distortion and Ripping Edges
  • Lattice Enhancements
  • Delete Child Features – enhancements
  • Analyze Pocket/Blend Pocket – enhancements
  • Sheet Metal – Tab & Flange Enhancements
  • Renew Feature
  • Introduction to NX Layout / Animation Designer

If you’ve considered moving to NX but have been daunted by your legacy CAD data, there are two methods that can help make the move: Content Migration Manager (CMM) and NX Migration (NXM). Both operate within a Teamcenter environment and offer the benefit of:

  • Protecting your intellectual property
  • Using your legacy CAD data
  • Reducing your migration efforts and costs

Using the new NX 12 multiple window display allows the user to quickly and easily switch between parts and applications. Float a new window and place it on another monitor and really use those multiple screens on your desk. With the new NX 12 multiple tabbed interface, you can work more easily with cross-unit components in an assembly by simply opening the cross-unit part in a new tab. Perform simple side-by-side comparisons of similar and revised parts and have a drawing with the 3D model open and visible on your screen.
